Customization of botanical extracts

Are you looking for an extract that:
  • can best support the claims you want to make for your finished product?
  • is innovative, so as to give a novelty to your product?
  • has a particular active ingredient title?
  • is certified Cosmos organic, or organic 834, or with other certification?
  • is it produced with special attention to the environment?
  • is it new and patentable?
  • does it contain low concentrations of undesirable substances?
  • does it have special sensory characteristics (smell, color, taste, etc.)?
  • has the chemical and physical stability been prolonged over time?

Extract discovery

With the Extract Discovery service, Alidans provides each customer with their own custom extract, specially prepared to meet their particular needs, whether functional, organoleptic or commercial.

If you are looking for an extract customized to your needs, CONTACT US.

We design and manufacture customized products, such as botanical extracts, oils and essential oils, for example:

  • Plant extracts
  • Algae extracts
  • Mushroom extracts
  • Lichen extracts

Extracts can be supplied as fluid extracts, soft extracts, and dry extracts.

In silico design of extracts

Through in silico simulation of extraction processes using proprietary and dedicated software, Alidans creates computational models that suggest how to choose and modify extraction conditions to guide the process toward obtaining the desired extract, saving on the experimental work, time and cost required to set up the extraction process.

Selection of particular parts of the plant

Within the same plant, the distribution of phytoconstituents can vary among different organs. Therefore, Alidans can make a selection of plant parts to obtain characteristic extracts, such as:

  • Flower extracts
  • Fruit extracts
  • Bud extracts
  • Bud extracts
  • Leaf extracts
  • Seed extract
  • Bark extract
  • Root extract
  • Resin extracts

Selection of specific geographic areas

Each geographical area of the world is characterized by its own flora, which retains an immense biodiversity and richness of ethnobotanical uses. Alidans, for your custom extracts, can find plants from every geographic area of the world providing for example:

  • Tuscan plant extract
  • Plant extracts from Sardininia
  • Plant extracts from Sicillia
  • Mediterranean plant extracts
  • Plant extracts from the Amazon rainforest
  • Plant extracts from the Yunnan region (China)
  • Mongolian plant extract
  • Plant extracts from Australia
  • South African plant extracts
  • Kenyan plant extracts
  • Plant extracts from the Indian subcontinent

If you are looking for plant extracts from other geographical areas, CONTACT US.

Extraction solvent selection

Through the appropriate selection of the extraction solvent, Alidans provides:

  • Aqueous extract
  • Hydroalcoholic extracts (mother tinctures)
  • Hydroglycerin and glycerin extracts
  • Glycolic extracts
  • Extracts in supercritical fluids (e.g., extracts in supercritical CO2)
  • Oil/liposoluble extract
  • Extracts obtained in other desired solvents

If you are looking for plant extracts in custom solvents CONTACT US

Selection of extraction technique

Some examples of techniques that can be used to prepare extracts are:

  • pressing
  • maceration
  • digestion
  • decoction
  • infusion
  • breakfast
  • steam distillation
  • supercritical fluid extraction (e.g., supercritical CO2)
  • ultrasonic extraction
  • hydrodistillation

To learn more CONTACT US.

Separation/purification of extracts

Once an extract has been obtained, it can be subjected to various separation and/or purification techniques, for example:

  • ultrafiltration
  • passage through resins
  • splitting up
  • chromatograph
  • ...

Titration and chemical characterization of extracts

In order to claim a particular title of active ingredient contained in an extract, the extract itself must be titrated.

Titration of an extract, in fact, allows one or more components of interest to be quantified by applying the most appropriate analytical methods according to the chemical class of the components to be characterized.

To learn more, visit the page TITULATION AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF EXTRACTS.

Characterization of the safety and efficacy of extracts

The evaluation of the safety and efficacy profile of a plant extract allows a particular desired effect to be claimed and is based on the analysis of data and information obtained from various sources:

  • Scientific literature search
  • In silico evaluation, using various bioinformatic techniques (e.g., estimation of TTC, Toxicological Threshold Concern)
  • Evaluation by performing in vitro, clinical, use or sensory tests.

Standardization of extracts

Careful control of the variables involved in the entire production process, from plant selection in the field to processing operations, allows obtaining an extract standardized in its chemical (titer of substances of interest) and physical (appearance , density, solubility, etc.) characteristics.

Certification of extracts

At the customer's request, Alidans provides extracts with certifications such as:

  • organic product certified according to Regulation (EC) 848/2018
  • organic cosmetics certified according to the NT/CB 01 standard
  • Cosmos organic certification
  • NaTrue certification
  • Eco Bio Cosmetics certification
  • Vegan certification
  • ...

Technical Documentation

Each extract comes with the following accompanying technical documentation:

  • Technical Data Sheet (TS)
  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
  • Certificate of Analysis (CoA)
  • Other documentation upon request

Post-processing

Extracts, once produced, can undergo further post-processing, such as:

  • Freeze-drying
  • Spray drying
  • Concentration
  • Micronization
  • Inclusion in vehicles such as liposomes, etc....
  • ...

In this way, a wide variety of types of extracts can be obtained, such as:

  • Fluid extracts
  • Soft extracts
  • Dry extracts
  • Microencapsulated extracts
  • Lyophilized extracts
