Aqueous extracts
Aqueous extraction is a method of extracting active ingredients from plant matrices using water as a solvent. It is a suitable method for extracting water-soluble phytoconstituents, e.g., polyphenols.
In the aqueous extraction process, there are many variables that can be modified to promote and optimize the enrichment of an aqueous extract in terms of particular desired active ingredients. Temperature and duration of extraction are two examples.
The Aqueous extracts we process
We can provide aqueous extracts of botanicals from various geographical areas of the world.
We can develop extracts by optimizing the extraction conditions in order to maximize the extraction of the active ingredients of interest. Our extracts can be stabilized by adding preservatives of the customer's choice, e.g., in cosmetics you can use the same preservatives that you intend to use in the finished product so as not to complicate the INCI. If you prefer not to add preservatives, you can provide pasteurized aqueous extracts packaged in sterile bag-in-boxes.
In the nutraceutical field, it is possible to supply dry aqueous extracts obtained by spray-drying.
We can provide various types of aqueous extracts, obtained by different extraction techniques, but always using water as the extraction vehicle.

Some examples of aqueous extracts we can provide are:
- Fruit condensation water - produced by distilling fresh fruit without any added water. By using organic fruit, condensation water with up to 100% organic content can be obtained.
- Distilled water (Hydrolates) - obtained by steam distillation from fresh or dried plants. This technique lends itself well to the extraction of volatile phytoconstituents.
- Dry aqueous extracts - obtained by aqueous extraction followed by drying by spray drying.
- Other aqueous extracts - obtained by infusion or decoction of the plant matrix.
